BLURB:

There would be blood.
Blood for blood.
Blood to pay.
An entire world of it.

For the resistance in 1950s Germany, the war may be over, but the fight has just begun.

Death camp survivor Yael, who has the power to skinshift, is on the run: the world has just seen her shoot and kill Hitler. But the truth of what happened is far more complicated, and its consequences are deadly. Yael and her unlikely comrades dive into enemy territory to try to turn the tide against the New Order, and there is no alternative but to see their mission through to the end, whatever the cost.

But dark secrets reveal dark truths, and one question hangs over them all: how far can you go for the ones you love?

Woah. Woah. Much better than ‘‘Wolf by Wolf,’’ I think.

And way to plant a knife into my heart and then twist it twenty times until it’s so deep it’s not even visible anymore.

Brace yourself, is what I recommend. Mouahahahaha.

Yael’s characterization is exceptional. This isn’t news, as she was pretty strong and impressive in the first book also, but she’s more in touch with her emotions here. She has more control over them.

I’ve become less and less attached to YA couples. Maybe because of the amount of books I read or because I have too many ships in place now and no space for new ones. YET, Luka won me over.

There’s something about forfeiting the car wheel of our future to be with the one we love that I find extremely reckless, yes, but so incredibly romantic, also. Normally I would raise my eyebrows like what the hell is wrong with you, but Yael can’t do this alone. And she needs people to keep her grounded, in order to not turn into a piñata killing machine.

(Now I can’t stop imagining a piñata killing other piñatas with bonbons.)

I’m so impatient for Ryan Graudin’s next book. It’s amazing what she can do with words. If someone else had written this story, I’m one hundred percent sure I wouldn’t have found it this interesting, seeing that historical fiction was never my go-to genre, and one of my favourite things about this series is the writing style itself.

If you haven’t started this series already, go, go, go! I’ll race you to the bookstore. Need to pick up something light after this. Oh, my heart.

  1. Ok ok you’ve convinced me – I’ll start reading wolf by wolf asap. To be honest this series has been sitting in my TBR pile for awhile. Very happy to know its a story that just gets better and better 🙂 Nice review!

  2. I’ve already read Wolf by Wolf and I wasn’t the biggest fan, but you’ve convinced me to give this one a try 🙂

  3. AWWW! I love your enthusiasm for this book! I could literally imagine you pushing this book in someone’s face right now and being all like: “READ THIS. NOW.” Now you make me want to read it and I’ve never heard about it! ha! That’s talent because usually it’s hard to convince me. 😉

  4. I always love when the sequel is better than the first book, and it seems like this one manages to follow through on that no problem!
