REVIEW:

This was a simple and yet very unique love story. The love story itself was complex, as much happened around it, but the idea of having two people meet, fall in love and then go through hardships will not boggle anyone’s mind. It’s the events that lead to those things that will fascinate the readers and make them read on and on and on until they finish this book in a single day.

That’s what happened to me. I don’t know if it’s because I was procrastinating with my school work or because this truly was a gripping story (probably the latter) but I could not get enough of this book. Unlike it is the case with many other of Nicholas Sparks’ written works, every single sentence written in this story felt like it mattered. There was also a healthy balance of description and dialog, both things Nicholas Sparks has mastered wonderfully.

Interestingly enough, while the character of Hope Anderson was more spotlighted than that of Tru Walls, Tru was the one who captured my heart. With Hope, the emphasis was on her marital situation, whereas with Tru it was on his background, his family, and that was something that resonated better with me. Moreover, for the first time in a while, I got attached to a location featured in a story – the beach where Tru and Hope spent lovely moments together which eventually becomes symbolic of their relationship, as does the mailbox.

I am very pleased with Nicholas Sparks. He does play with the reader, which he probably enjoyed but I don’t think was necessary. Regardless, I thoroughly believed in this love story and it made me feel good inside, despite the hardships the two main characters faced.
