REVIEW:

Every tangible and intangible part of my being fell head over heels for these short, funny and supremely feminist fairytale retellings featuring kickass females and deeply important messages. It is a parody, yes, but one with meaning and a lot of memorable content. Cherry on the cake: there are also lovely illustrations included.

I actually received two copies of it by mistakes, so I gifted the second copy to a friend of mine, who also adored these tales. It’s not just that they are well-written and completely entertaining. On top of that, they are so surprising and daring. These authors dare to bring up topics that are considered taboo in some cases and they speak of them with unwavering confidence.

The first fairytale retold is The Little Princess, and while we know the original tale is dark and the Disney version adorable, this particular retelling is simultaneously dark, adorable and fucking awesome. You know why? Because vaginas are discussed. Are vaginas typically discussed in fairytales? No, they are not. Each one of these short retellings is astonishing in its own way. Some parts actually made me laugh out loud.

I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. I want more.
